Class Styles at Sukha Yoga

Foundations of Yoga

Whether you have been practicing for a while and need a little refresh and inspiration, or just stepping onto the mat for the first time, join us for a fun and informative class on the foundations of yoga alignment and flow!

1. Learn the BETTER than basic ways to adapt the most common yoga postures so they will better suit your individual body type and flexibility.

2. Understand the fundamental alignment principles of yoga to help you build strength, balance, and confidence while preventing injury.

3. Explore new ways of breathing that can shift your whole physiology (Spoiler Alert: It takes less than a minute) and experience the magic of inner silence.

4. Allow a few of the basic concepts of Yoga philosophy to open your mind to a better way of thinking and meditating as you access deeper awareness.

Hatha Flow / Align and Flow

Open to all levels, slower paced sequences focus on alignment and quality of breath in classical asana (yoga postures) including standing poses and Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutes). Strengthening and meditative. This class is a great step-up from beginner classes.

Slow Flow

The intent of this all levels class is to nourish your body and soul. The first part of class will often include pranayama (breath work), lots of time to warm up and then a slow flowing yoga sequence to help you let go of any tightness or tension built up during your week. Wind down with a deep meditation into savasana. Get ready to relax and feel re-energized!

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa flow is a vigorous style of yoga linking breath and movement through sun salutations and postures. The smooth continuous sequencing deepens breathing and increases endurance and flexibility. Alignment based flow classes will leave you feeling centered, balanced and empowered. Classes may include instruction on inversions- shoulder stand, hand stand and head stand (but several levels and options are always given). Classes often interweave intentions, spiritual teachings, mantras and chanting. Soulful and sweaty! Some yoga experience recommended.

Restorative / Yin Yoga

Restful Yoga for stressful times. ….the antidote to stress is relaxation. Restoratives are an excellent way to carry you from a state of “doing” into a state of “being”, balancing out the stress of modern life.

Both soothing and regenerating, restorative/meditative poses free the body and mind of unnecessary tension, reduce stress, and create a balanced healing environment by increasing circulation to the organs, slowing & deepening the breath and calming the central nervous system. Restorative yoga is designed to move the spine in all directions while in gentle, fully supported poses. By supporting the body with props (blankets, bolsters, straps) you will enjoy a longer respite in each pose, allowing your body and mind to ‘actively’ rest and experience peaceful surrender. This practice is suitable & encouraged for all ages and fitness levels. Give yourself the gift of mindful rest and holistic healing.
